Résumé : |
Marianna wants to break the fear and insecurity of dealing with people with disabilities. She asks, 'what are your feelings when you hear the term disability'? What are your feelings when you see a person with disability? She tells her audience how, through sports, all people can enrich their lives and focus on greater things such as the Olympics & Paralympics. She talks of equality of ability and gender in equestrian sports up to Olympic level. The champion of her story is a disabled rider, a young Cretan girl and the only one in Greece to aim for the Paralympics in Tokyo 2020. This talk is inspiring, emotional, moving and it encourages people to dream of anything and aim to achieve their goals. Marianna says “in life it does not matter what we cannot do, it only matters what we can do with what we have”.
Marianna Grammatikaki is a dressage riding instructor and the founder of the Riding Academy of Crete www.ridingacademy.gr Her passion is to make horse riding a more popular sport for anybody in Crete, Greece. She is dedicated to encouraging people to turn to horses as an important way to regain the lost connection to nature where we all belong. Marianna has lived all her life with horses, in this talk she describes a bit of her own story of how she became motivated to travel and train in horse riding. These days she is one of the top trainers in Greece, has been a member of the Greek dressage team, has ridden in international shows and has trained many children and young riders from zero to national teams and Gold medals to Balkan Games. Marianna has built the first therapeutic horse riding school in Crete. Starting from nothing, these days she is training a disabled girl from a Cretan village, the only Greek paradressage rider who dreams of taking part in the Paraolympics in 2020. Why not? Marianna says “We have to dare to dream, to believe and to perform at our highest”. Sport starts as a therapy but it can make people excel and stand out, and feel equal and that is what para Olympics is all about. It means parallel to the Olympics, as in all aspects of life, disabled and able bodied can lead parallel lives. At the same time, Marianna wants to encourage more parents of children with disabilities to train in sports. She wants more people with disabilities to enter the sport of horse riding and more coaches to dare to train people & children with disabilities. It is not about what they cannot do but about what they can. |
